Actual Salary: £27,713 - £30,250 (depending on qualifications)
Hourly Rate: £15.51 - £16.93 per hour
Welcome Bonus: £2,000 (*terms apply)
Hours: 40 hours per week - Term Time only
- Start time: 8.15am
- Finish times: Monday/Tuesday/Wednesday 4.45pm, Thursday 5.00pm, Friday 4.00pm
Contract: Fixed-term for 1 year (starting January 2025)
Overview:
We are seeking a Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA) to join our team in Effingham, Surrey. This is an exciting opportunity to play a key role in supporting the learning and development of students aged 11-16 with autism spectrum disorders (ASD), behavioural challenges, and communication difficulties. In this role, you will provide high-quality teaching and learning experiences, work collaboratively with a dedicated team, and step in to lead lessons in the absence of a class teacher.

Key Responsibilities:
As an HLTA, your duties will include:
Pupil Welfare and Safeguarding
- Ensure the safeguarding and welfare of all pupils in accordance with school policies, including safeguarding and PREVENT protocols.
- Provide meaningful feedback on pupil behaviour, relationships, and attitudes.
- Monitor and address challenging pupil behaviours, keeping accurate records of incidents and interventions.
Supporting Teaching and Learning
- Lead classes in the absence of class teachers across the school.
- Assist class teachers by planning, preparing, and delivering teaching and learning activities.
- Modify and adapt lessons to meet the needs of individual pupils or groups.
- Provide a broad and balanced curriculum that challenges pupils and supports their full potential.
- Develop and implement individual plans for pupils (e.g., educational elements of EHCPs) and contribute to reviews when requested.
Ideal Candidate:
To succeed in this role, you should demonstrate:
- Essential: GCSE Maths and English (minimum Grade 4 or equivalent).
- Essential: Higher Level Teaching Assistant Diploma or equivalent Level 4 qualification (or the ability to demonstrate equivalent skills).
- Strong organisational and communication skills.
- A passion for supporting children with special educational needs (SEN).
