Location: Manchester (Hybrid)  

Salary: £70,000 - £100,000 (Dependent on Expereince)

Role and Responsibilities:  

  • Lead and provide technical solutions for substations, including Single Line Diagrams, technical information, layouts, and associated documentation, ensuring compliance with established standards and customer specifications.
  • Develop technical concepts, specifications, and equipment/material selections, balancing cost, quality, and international standards.
  • Perform technical calculations and prepare purchasing specifications and schedules for all equipment related to projects and tenders.
  • Prepare Bills of Quantities, cost estimations, and manage deviations and clarifications for technical solutions.
  • Provide technical leadership for large and complex EHV/HV Air & Gas Insulated Substation (AIS & GIS) proposals and projects.
  • Lead and expand the design team, driving growth and development

Required Experience & Qualifications

  • Minimum 10 years’ experience in Transmission & Distribution Engineering, including significant experience in the UK market, alongside proven people management skills.
  • Comprehensive understanding of the Transmission & Distribution market.
  • Master’s degree in electrical engineering or a related technical discipline.
  • Extensive experience in power systems design up to 132kV (preferably up to 400kV) across a range of projects for industrial, distribution, and transmission networks.
  • Expertise in substation engineering, including conceptual/feasibility studies, system studies, protection, and substation design.
  • Solid knowledge of legislative demands and industry standards.
  • Proficiency in simulation software and electrical circuit modelling tools.
  • Strong understanding of system studies such as load flow, short circuit calculations, insulation coordination, Single Line Diagrams, CT/VT calculations, Auxiliary Power Systems, and power cables.
