Eldon Housing Association was established in 1981 and specialises in the provision of housing for older people. Our sheltered and extra-care housing schemes are in the London Borough of Croydon and West Sussex. We also provide Facilities Management services to three London Borough of Croydon Residential Care Homes/Day Centres.

As part of our Board succession plan, we are seeking a Deputy Board Chair with the experience and knowledge necessary to help shape and advance our exciting plans for Eldon. The Deputy Chair will be pivotal in supporting Eldon's success while ensuring compliance with legal and regulatory requirements. This involves deputising for the Chair as needed, collaborating with the Board and Executive team to establish and monitor the organisation's strategic direction, and contributing to the development of structures and processes that promote a culture of trust and mutual respect, allowing all parties to work effectively together towards Eldon’s social purpose. We are looking for a diverse range of strategic leadership, management, risk and audit, care and support sector, and commercial experience to guide our ongoing organic growth.

We are particularly keen on candidates with strategic experience in one or more of the following areas:

  • Governance
  • Finance
  • Legal
  • Housing, Asset & Property Management (PFI knowledge would be an advantage)

The time commitment for this role consists of eight meetings each year and two Saturday Away Days. The Deputy Chair will also participate in one committee: Quality Assurance or Audit & Risk. We typically hold a combination of in-person meetings in Croydon and virtual meetings, usually on Thursdays at 5:30 PM.

Our ideal applicant would have chairing experience and be knowledgeable about and interested in issues affecting the housing sector and older people. A full induction programme will be provided.

We seek a Deputy Chair who aligns with our values and vision for the future, assisting us in transforming our aspirations into reality. Additionally, we are particularly eager to have a Board that includes individuals from diverse backgrounds and various life experiences, supporting our commitment to equality and diversity.

Ideally, we are looking for an individual who resides within a 20-mile radius of our Head Office in Croydon, Surrey.

In return, the Deputy Chair will join a team of dedicated individuals with a wide range of knowledge and skills to share.

The Board Recruitment Pack, which includes the Role Description and Person Specification, is available from Phoebe Herschdorfer, our Executive and Governance Officer.

To apply: Please forward an up-to-date CV and a brief supporting statement explaining why you are interested in the role and what you feel you could bring to Eldon Housing’s Board as a Deputy Chair (please no longer than two pages).
