We are seeking a dedicated Financial Accountant to join our Finance team in Leeds. Reporting directly to the Finance Director, this role is crucial for maintaining an efficient, organised, and accurate finance function within our business. The ideal candidate will be responsible for the preparation of monthly management accounts, annual statutory accounts, and supporting various other finance department functions.
Day-to-day of the role:- Produce most of the monthly management accounts pack.
- Analyse Profit and Loss account variances and reconcile Balance Sheet accounts.
- Prepare schedules for the annual audit and support the Finance Director with budgets and forecasting.
- Prepare VAT returns and collate import and export information.
- Handle compliance matters such as Plastic Packaging Tax and EPR waste packaging returns.
- Update the cash book and prepare monthly bank reconciliations.
- Analyse aged raw materials, work-in-progress, and finished-goods stock to identify potential stock obsolescence.
- Liaise with internal and external customers, suppliers, auditors, and stakeholders.
- Generate and implement cost improvement ideas.
- Maintain accurate records, ensuring audit trails are maintained, and produce reports for management.
- Improve the company’s job costing system and potentially cover for payroll preparation.
- Supervise and guide other members of the finance team and cover for holiday and sickness of other finance team members when required.
- Strong Financial Accounting experience is essential.
- Part qualified accountant (CIMA, ACCA, ACA or equivalent) is desirable, however not essential depending on experience.
- Excellent communication skills - both written and verbal.
- Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage and prioritise a busy and varied workload.
- Problem-solving skills and proactive thinking.
- Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
- Flexibility and excellent attention to detail.
- High working knowledge of Microsoft Packages including Excel and Word.
- Willingness to learn and a strong desire to develop and grow within the organisation.
- Experience building relationships and liaising with stakeholders.
- Strong numerical and analytical skills.
- Experience with accounting systems and understanding of audit requirements.
- Understanding of Payroll and PAYE controls is desirable.
