Whilst our 850 strong team of veterinary professionals are out in the field ensuring animal welfare standards are met within the UK and that the meat is safe to enter the food chain, we have a team of 60 Central Support heroes back at our Leeds head office that cover the central support functions.
We are looking for an Assistant Accountant (Systems) who has good all-round Accounts experience to support our busy Finance team.
About the Role:
Reporting to the Financial Accountant, this role is crucial in ensuring the smooth operation of our financial processes and supporting various finance-related tasks. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in finance, excellent analytical skills, and the ability to work effectively in a small team environment.This role would suit someone who is happy and confident working with lots of data and being able to consolidate and analyse this information.
What you will be doing:
- Provide interim management accounts cover and external reporting support.
- Perform account reconciliations, as required.
- Ensure prompt recovery of costs following accidents and damage.
- Pursue historic recovery of costs, and reconcile costs and recharges to ensure complete recovery.
- Support audit testing and requirements.
- Assist with month-end and year-end close processes.
- Conduct monthly analysis tasks to support management information.
- Support the payroll team and ensure payroll accuracy and good record maintenance.
- Provide interim support for budget preparation.
- Assist in the production of year-end statutory accounts.
- Reconcile and maintain the Fixed Asset Register.
- Process supplier and ad-hoc payments, as required.
- Support the finance team with various tasks, as needed.
Your qualifications and experience:
- High level of Excel competency.
- Ability to consolidate and analyse data from different sources.
- Comfortable dealing with multiple IT systems.
- Excellent communication skills.
- Strong numerical skills and attention to detail.
- Experience with general ledger functions and the month/year-end close process.
- Broad experience across finance, including sales ledger, purchase ledger, management accounts, and payroll.
- Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
- Proactive approach and ability to use Excel and AI for data analysis and recommendations.
- Comfortable working in a small team environment.
- Ability to multi-task and manage finance-related projects.
- Ability to work to tight timescales and meet reporting deadlines.
- Driven by a desire to make improvements, deliver efficiency, and add value.

Salary £35,000 to £45,000pa depending on skills and experience

This is a full-time role working 40 hours per week.Although primarily office based (LS15 8ZB), there will be some flexibility as to remote working.
