Senior / Principal Design Engineer - Bridges Role Overview:As a Lead Design Engineer within our Civil Structures team, you will spearhead the design and delivery of solutions for bridges and ancillary civil structures projects. Your role will involve coordinating with various disciplines, providing technical guidance, and mentoring colleagues.Key Responsibilities:* Project Involvement: Engage in projects from inception to completion, supporting the Project Manager in defining project briefs, deliverables, milestones, methodologies, and quality control strategies.* Design and Review: Lead detailed design efforts, including calculations, drawings, sketches, and reports, ensuring optimal project solutions. Review and approve design outputs and manage internal project start-up meetings.* Technical Guidance: Offer technical support and training to team members, fostering their development and mentoring graduate engineers.* Quality Assurance: Establish and manage project checking and approval processes, ensuring adherence to time, cost, and quality requirements.* Continuous Improvement: Assess and document design changes, communicate effectively with the Project Manager, and recommend improvements to technical policies and processes.Qualifications and Experience:* Educational Background: Master's or Bachelor's degree in Civil or Structural Engineering.* Professional Experience: Over 10 years of post-qualification experience in structures design, with a proven track record in delivering bridge and ancillary civil structures projects.* Professional Membership: Chartered Membership of ICE or IStructE (or working towards it).* Technical Expertise: Proficient in design to Eurocodes and DMRB, and experienced with structural design software such as Autodesk Structural Bridge Design and LUSAS.* Mentorship: Experience in mentoring graduate engineers under ICE or IStructE training schemes.* Project Management: Extensive experience in delivering projects within tight deadlines, including project governance, tender/bid submissions, and obtaining statutory approvals.* Communication Skills: Excellent written and verbal communication skills, adaptable to different audiences.* Client Insight: Ability to understand client needs and identify opportunities for beneficial relationships.* Driving Licence: Full UK driving licence.This role offers an exciting opportunity to lead and innovate within a dynamic team, contributing to significant civil structures projects.
