Behaviour Support Assistant

NextGen Teachers are currently recruiting on behalf of a school in Leeds for a behaviour mentor. We are looking for a compassionate and dedicated candidate who will support students, who have profound and multiple learning difficulties, with day to day learning and behavioural challenges as well as helping them to overcome barriers to learning and achieve their full potential. As a behaviour mentor, you will work closely with students who have a range of S challenges, providing both academic and emotional support. Your role will include assisting in the classroom, implementing individualised support plans, and providing a safe, positive environment for students to thrive.

Key Responsibilities of a Behaviour Support Assistant:

  • Support students on a 1:1 basis or in small groups, providing tailored support to meet their specific SEN needs
  • Work collaboratively with class teachers and SENCO to implement personalised learning plans
  • Help to manage and de-escalate challenging behaviours in line with school policies
  • Provide emotional support to students, fostering their confidence and well-being
  • Assist with the delivery of interventions and learning activities, both inside and outside the classroom
  • Contribute to the creation of a safe, inclusive, and respectful classroom environment

The ideal candidate will have:

  • A genuine passion for supporting students with SEN needs
  • Experience working with children or young people, ideally in an educational setting
  • A calm, patient, and empathetic approach, with excellent communication skills
  • Knowledge of SEN and strategies for supporting emotional and behavioural development (such as TeamTeach)
  • The ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • A commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children
