Reports to: Maintenance Supervisor

Shift Pattern: 4 days on, 4 days off, working days and nights (6am-6pm / 6pm-6am).

About the Role:

We are working with a leading facilities management company seeking a Shift Engineer (Electrical Bias) to join their dedicated maintenance team in Leeds. In this vital role, you will be responsible for ensuring the smooth and efficient operation of the electrical, mechanical, and building systems. This position requires a qualified and experienced engineer to undertake both reactive and planned maintenance tasks, working within a 24/7 service framework. You will lead a small shift team, while also providing expert technical guidance to colleagues.

Key Responsibilities:

Maintenance & Repairs:

Maintain, service, and repair a wide range of systems including:

  • Heating and domestic water services
  • General electrical services (lighting, power, etc.)
  • Air handling units
  • Low voltage electrical distribution and switchgear
  • Emergency standby generating plant
  • Fire alarm systems and emergency lighting
  • Electrical control systems
  • Building Management System (BMS)

Team Leadership & Support:

  • Lead a small shift team consisting of Maintenance Craftsmen and Maintenance Assistants, providing guidance and support to ensure high standards of service.
  • Assist with training, enabling you and your team to undertake Authorised Person duties.

Safety & Compliance:

  • Carry out all duties in accordance with statutory company health and safety guidelines, ensuring a safe working environment for all staff.
  • Maintain awareness of operational procedures for key systems and major plant items.

Documentation & Reporting:

  • Maintain accurate records of all maintenance activities and complete service reports.
  • Provide regular progress updates to your line manager and ensure all documentation is up to date.

Other Duties:

  • Occasionally carry out installation work related to minor upgrades and system adaptations.
  • Assist other trades in carrying out repairs, maintenance, testing, and installation work as needed.
  • Act as a Competent or Authorised Person as directed.
  • Participate in other healthcare projects and undertake overtime to maintain service standards.
  • Perform any other duties as required within the scope of your role.

Qualifications & Experience:

Essential:

  • Qualified, time-served engineer (electrical or mechanical) with a minimum of 3 years post-apprenticeship experience.
  • Level 3 qualification in electrical engineering (or equivalent).
  • Proven experience maintaining and repairing electrical and mechanical systems in commercial or healthcare settings.
  • Ability to work under pressure and manage multiple tasks effectively.

Desirable:

  • Cross-trade experience or multi-skilled capabilities would be beneficial.
