Field Based Food Packaging Specialist

We are working with a leading UK distributor of innovative and sustainable flexible packaging solutions, supplying plain and printed films, as well as pouches, to major food manufacturers. With a strong focus on quality, service, and sustainability, the company provides a collaborative and growth-focused work environment.
Role Overview
This is a technical role combining problem-solving, material expertise, and sales support. You’ll work closely with customers to trial new packaging materials, ensure compatibility with packing lines, and troubleshoot issues. The role requires regular UK-wide travel, with occasional visits to Ireland and Europe.
The ideal person will either be working in food manufacturing with an understanding of packing machinery and have an inquisitee, problem solving mindset, or be from the flexible packaging materials industry. Knowledge of both is highly desirable.
Key Responsibilities
- Technical Support & Problem-Solving: Diagnose and resolve packaging material or machinery issues, ensuring optimal performance.
- Customer & Sales Support: Partner with the sales team to provide technical guidance, oversee trials, and promote sustainable materials.
- Material Development & NPD: Support new product development, working with suppliers and attending exhibitions to stay ahead of industry advancements.
- Site Visits: Conduct trials, assess material performance, and respond promptly to customer concerns, aiming for a 24-hour turnaround when issues arise.
Skills & Experience
- Background in flexible/food packaging, ideally with technical expertise in packaging materials or machinery.
- Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to assess and resolve technical challenges.
- Experience in the food industry is advantageous.
- Excellent communication skills for both technical and non-technical audiences.
- Self-motivated, organised, and comfortable with frequent travel, including overnight stays.
