With a strong focus on collaboration, the company prides itself on smooth project transitions from the tender stage through to completion and our client is currently recruiting for a Mechanical Estimator to be based from their Leeds offices to assist in this area.

The Role and Its Responsibilities

The Mechanical Estimator will be an integral part of the pre-construction team, responsible for preparing competitive tenders with a high degree of cost and technical accuracy. The role emphasizes increasing profitability, reducing risks, and exploring value engineering opportunities to secure projects. Key responsibilities include:

  • Managing personal workload to meet deadlines.
  • Obtaining, reviewing, and validating quotations from suppliers and subcontractors.
  • Scrutinizing tender documents to ensure compliance and competitiveness.
  • Conducting take-offs for mechanical systems.
  • Producing clear tender clarifications for submission documents.
  • Coordinating with the electrical estimator to ensure comprehensive coverage of all work elements.
  • Proposal of value engineering options when applicable.
  • Supporting pre-construction activities to help secure projects.


The Individual

The ideal candidate will have a minimum of three years' experience in a similar role and demonstrate excellent communication and organizational skills. Attention to detail and the ability to understand the requirements of each project or tender are essential. The individual will be a proactive team player who can work collaboratively across departments and take responsibility for their own professional development.

Skills and Qualifications

At least 3 years of experience in mechanical estimating.
Proficiency with estimating software, such as Estimation, and familiarity with Excel and Word.
Strong communication skills and attention to detail.
Ability to manage personal workload and meet deadlines.
Well-organized with a thorough understanding of project/tender requirements.
Experience in value engineering and risk reduction.
