Job Overview:

The Plant Fitter will play a key role in maintaining, repairing, and servicing heavy plant machinery at our wood recycling centre. This role involves ensuring the efficient operation and longevity of equipment used in recycling processes, including loaders, shredders, conveyors, and forklifts. The successful candidate will be proactive in identifying maintenance needs, troubleshooting machinery issues, and implementing solutions that ensure the seamless operation of the plant.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Perform routine maintenance and repairs on plant machinery, including shredders, conveyors, loaders, and screening equipment.
  • Diagnose and troubleshoot equipment faults quickly to minimize downtime and operational delays.
  • Conduct safety checks on machinery to ensure all equipment meets health and safety standards.
  • Maintain accurate records of all inspections, maintenance, and repair activities.
  • Work collaboratively with site operators to understand machinery usage and address any recurring issues.
  • Source and replace parts, working with suppliers and purchasing team to ensure timely availability of necessary components.
  • Implement preventative maintenance schedules to ensure the reliability and performance of all plant equipment.
  • Adhere to all health, safety, and environmental regulations, promoting a safe workplace culture.
Qualifications and Skills:
  • Proven experience as a Plant Fitter, Heavy Equipment Mechanic, or similar role.
  • Strong knowledge of hydraulic, mechanical, and electrical systems used in heavy machinery.
  • Relevant technical certifications or vocational training in mechanical engineering or heavy plant maintenance.
  • Ability to diagnose and repair machinery issues using technical manuals and schematics.
  • Strong attention to detail and proactive problem-solving skills.
  • Effective communication skills to work with other team members and report on machinery status.
  • Forklift or heavy machinery operation certification (preferred).
