The Company

The company is a startup that will offer unparalleled home improvement and maintenance to homeowners.

Theyre aiming to offer world-class customer experience through seamless application of technology, from their front-end app and web portals through to back-office integrations between the Call Centre, CRM and partners. Theyll be using AI to enhance the capabilities of and remove friction for all the users and workflows along the way.

The Founder and CEO is a serial entrepreneur and angel investor who has vast experience in scaling tech companies.

The Role

You will be joining a small but dynamic and growing team of experienced professionals dedicated to providing great customer experience for homeowners. Our client is currently looking to hire additional developers, intending to grow the team further through 2025.

Theyre looking for someone to join their existing team of full stack engineers working on software supporting their sites, apps, call center integrations, partners, operations, and AI solutions. The ideal candidate will have a strong backend skillset incorporating Typescript/Javascript knowledge for API development, strong AWS skills (with Serverless in particular), be experienced with Infrastructure as Code and CI/CD pipelines and take a pragmatic but effective approach to DevOps practices in a growing startup.

Some frontend experience in a modern JS framework and willingness to work full stack is required, but this does not have to be a recent or a primary skillset. Startup or product-led experience in professional services is highly preferred.

Beyond a level of relevant, demonstrable technical experience, theyre looking for a team member with initiative that can work independently to solve real world product problems - and thats capable of engaging in any self learning required. You must be smart and able to get things done.

Requirements

Essential:

  • 3 years+ experience developing and deploying in AWS, at least a year of which must be working with Serverless technology (Lambda, EventBridge, Dynamo etc)
  • 5+ years working with cloud deployed software and API development
  • Excellent modern Javascript/Typescript knowledge
  • Proven experience working with Infrastructure as Code and CI/CD pipelines and deployment
  • Some knowledge of modern frontend development, and willingness to dip in as required
  • An ability to problem solve and develop solutions aligned with real-world requirements and outcomes
  • Strong empathy for user needs and their digital product experiences
  • Ability to develop and maintain secure RESTful APIs
  • Knowledge of SQL and RDBMs systems and NoSQL databases
  • Be capable of performing well as part of a small, self-organising team - familiar with performing and receiving effective code reviews, working effectively with git, Jira etc.
  • Excellent understanding of appropriate levels of unit, integration and E2E testing and mocking

Desirable experience that will help your application:

  • Experience with OpenAPI/Swagger, GraphQL
  • Ability to reason about programming design patterns and principles at a higher level
  • Experience with AWS CDK
  • Docker/containerisation skills and experience
  • Understanding of DevOps as a set of lean practices, rather than a set of technical tools
  • Demonstrated leadership and ability to mentor more junior developers
  • Affinity with and ability to implement DevOps principles modelled through CI/CD workflows
  • Viewable code on Github
  • Proficiency with a second programming language (ideally with a different paradigm e.g. dynamic vs static typing, a purely functional language etc.)
