We are seeking a Deputy Head of Department for Engineering and Manufacturing who will report directly to the Head of Department. This role is crucial in motivating and inspiring students to achieve their best and develop skills for progression. The successful candidate will lead by example in delivering outstanding teaching and learning experiences and manage curriculum development to meet industry needs.

Day-to-day of the role:
  • Motivate and inspire students to promote achievement and develop their skills to enable progression.
  • Provide an excellent learning experience that maximizes student attainment and enables progression to higher education or employment.
  • Ensure the highest standards of advice, guidance, and induction for students.
  • Plan, develop, and deliver a curriculum that meets the needs of the industry/sector.
  • Lead and model outstanding teaching, learning, and assessment practices.
  • Manage the performance and professional development of staff within the department.
  • Contribute to the college’s strategic planning processes.
  • Ensure compliance with all college and awarding body policies and procedures.
Required Skills & Qualifications:
  • English and Mathematics at Level 2 or above, with a willingness to improve to Level 3 or above.
  • Level 5 teaching qualification, with a commitment to the Education and Training Foundation Professional Standards.
  • Relevant professional Level 4 qualification and/or degree.
  • Substantial teaching experience in further education.
  • Proven experience managing staff and the curriculum in an educational setting.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Strong leadership and management skills, with the ability to promote positive student behaviour and support staff development.
