Health & Safety Manager - Biowaste and Organics

Based: Selby North Yorkshire

Package: £45,000 - £50,000 basic (experience dependant).

This rapidly expanding business operates 4 sites across Yorkshire and Humber offering a wide range of waste services. 2 of their East Yorkshire depots are now undergoing a major investment and growth plan in response to the commercial and industrial investments within these regions.

Their organic waste division is dedicated to the full recovery, processing, re-use and treatment of organic liquids and solids to aid landfill diversion and the ever-growing volume of food waste.

Site Treatment / Processes: Anaerobic digestion (AD) In-vessel composting, Washing and screening, Mechanical biological treatment (MBT) and Liquid waste treatment (LWT).

Health and Safety Manager Role & Responsibilities:

  • Develop, implement, and maintain safety policies and procedures.
  • Conduct regular inspections and audits to identify potential hazards and ensure compliance with safety regulations.
  • Investigate accidents, incidents, and near misses to determine root causes and recommend corrective actions.
  • Prepare detailed reports on safety performance, including incident rates, trends, and recommendations for improvement.
  • Provide safety training to employees on topics such as hazard identification, emergency response, and safe work practices.
  • Collaborate with management to develop and implement safety initiatives and programs.
  • Stay up to date with industry best practices and regulatory requirements.

Experience & Qualifications Required:

  • Experience working to ISO accreditation - Managing current company ISO14001 and implementing other ISO.
  • NEBOSH -Occupational Health and Safety or related field.
  • Proven experience as a Safety Manager.
  • Strong knowledge of safety regulations and standards.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills for report writing and presenting findings.
  • Ability to conduct root cause analysis and develop effective corrective actions.
  • Detail-oriented with strong analytical skills.
  • Strong leadership abilities to influence and drive a culture of safety compliance.

Salary: Dependant on experience

Holiday Allowance: 30 days increasing by one day each year of service, to max 35 days allowance.

Salary: £45-50k dependent on skills and experience
