Job description:

  • We have an exciting opportunity for an Underwriter to join the team, based in either our Leeds or Manchester office.

Purpose of the job:

  • The Underwriter will operate as part of the Underwriting Team, to assess and underwrite new business propositions within your own mandate ensuring that all recommendations for lending sanctions are in accordance with the Credit Policy. This includes delivery of best practices to effectively and efficiently safeguard the company's position.

Responsibilities:

  • Act as 1st underwriter and/or due diligence support for deals outside of your own mandate.
  • Support the Risk Director in ensuring the risk framework of the business is robust and remains so as the business grows.
  • Provide underwriting and credit risk awareness training to the wider business.
  • Support the Business Development team in structuring new business proposals.
  • Provide credit oversight to ensure new and existing facilities are written in accordance with credit policy and appetite.
  • Share best practice across the business, driving efficiencies and consistency across the Regions.
  • Support the wider Risk team with ad-hoc tasks as required.

Skills & Experience:

  • Experience of property backed lending, with a wider Asset Based lending background.
  • Deal structuring experience of working with the available asset base and any secondary security.
  • A solid understanding and ability to analyse and interpret financial statements.
  • Strong financial and commercial awareness.
  • Experience of coaching and developing colleagues.
  • Keen attention to detail, including the administration and handling of client data.
  • Time management skills - prioritise work effectively and be able to work under pressure to meet agreed service levels, whilst maintaining high accuracy.
  • Good analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • The ability to work collaboratively and engage with the wider business, key stakeholders and third parties.

Requirements:

  • You may be required to travel to our attend events and other offices, these may include an overnight stay.
