Mergers and Acquisitions Associate
At City and Capital, we are recruiting for an expanding IFA consultancy, based in Leeds. Our client is currently seeking a confident and professional individual to join as Mergers and Acquisitions Associate (M&A Associate), at a truly exciting time.
Our client works with the owners and boards of financial planning and wealth management firms to offer consultancy services that support business optimisation, growth, acquisition and exits. This role would sit within our clients M&A department, focussed on active buyers and sellers & respective M&A processes.
Launchng in May 2024, our client has already made big waves in the market and are supporting a huge range of planning and wealth firms with their goals and aspirations. You will play an integral role in all stages of pipeline management, client engagement and M&A project management activities. You will be a trusted point of communication with established buyers and our client’s sellers, amongst various other exciting tasks that come with the role, as outlined below.
Key Responsibilities
Initially, you will partner with the Senior’s in the team to:
- Undertake initial fact find and engagement meetings with new buyers & sellers
- Play a key role in the matching process between buyers & sellers
- Organise meetings and manage pipeline projects to ensure SLAs are met
- Be a key point of contact for new & existing buyers and sellers of the company
- Handle confidential information and assist with the data room
- Prepare reports on behalf of the company or clients that support the acquisition process
- Act as a key conduit to our client's other business units on shared opportunities & clients
- Develop presentations for the company or buyers and sellers as part of the acquisition process
The Ideal Candidate
The ideal candidate for this role will be someone with a genuine passion to develop & grow a long and successful career in mergers and acquisitions.
Critically, you do not have to have worked in M&A before as full training will be given. The ideal candidate is likely to have experience working within a financial planning, wealth management or financial services organisation, or may have worked with such businesses as clients, such as a recruitment consultant.
This role requires an individual with an excellent attention to detail, an inquisitive & analytical mindset and someone who has excellent communication skills, confident in communicating with IFA business owners, internal department’s and with other external stakeholders to the M&A process.

The Ideal Candidate
- Experience working in a in or with IFA/financial planning/wealth management companies ideal, though not essential
- Understands the 'lingo’ of the IFA market
- Excellent communicator, happy to engage with business owners of IFA firms
- Exceptional skills across the full Microsoft package
- Highly organised, excellent time management, strong prioritisation skills
- Capable of keeping several plates spinning at any one time
- Works proactively, seeks ideas, outcomes and resolutions independently
- Happy to roll up sleeves and tackle any task to support the business objective
- Not afraid to challenge the status quo & to offer ideas or pushback
- Ambitious and keen to grow with the firm
On Offer
Our client is ideally looking to pay a basic salary of between £25k - £35k, which will be entirely relevant to experience. Higher offers may be considered for exceptional talent.
Salary will be complemented with access to our client's favourable bonus/benefits scheme too, which covers aspects such as health cover and death in service, but also has other modern touches, such as the 9-day working fortnight, after an initial settling in and training period.
The role is based in the Horsforth (Leeds) office Monday - Friday with the option to move to a hybrid working pattern (3 days in the office) once training is complete and probation is passed.
Most notably, this is a role that comes with lots of training and progression potential. Our client is keen for the arriving M&A Associate learn the ropes initially and you will work alongside some seriously experienced and talented individuals in the IFA M&A space as you do.
Then, when the time is right, it is expected you can propel salary & career standing forward within, once excellent performance is delivered. At this stage it is expected you will be ready to step up to 'M&A Partner’ level, where you will be able to run your own pipeline of cases independently.
Needless to say, this can be exceptionally lucrative!
