Job Title: Associate Town Planner

Penguin Recruitment is delighted to be supporting the growth of a leading national planning consultancy in their search for an experienced Associate Town Planner.
This is an exciting opportunity for a talented Associate Town Planner to join a dynamic consultancy with a strong presence across the UK. The role can be based in one of the following locations: Newcastle, York, or Leeds, offering flexibility in your working environment while being part of a supportive, collaborative team.
As an Associate Town Planner, you will play a key role in managing and delivering a range of planning projects across residential, commercial, and mixed-use developments. You will work closely with senior management to develop planning strategies, liaise with clients, and mentor junior staff. This is a great opportunity for someone looking to take the next step in their career, with a focus on both project delivery and business development.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage and lead planning applications, from the initial feasibility stage through to successful approval.
- Provide expert advice on planning policy, local development plans, and planning regulations.
- Engage with key stakeholders, local authorities, and clients to ensure smooth project progression.
- Assist with the preparation of planning reports, design statements, and other submission documents.
- Contribute to business development activities, building relationships with new and existing clients.
- Mentor and guide junior staff, sharing your expertise and knowledge to support their professional growth.
About YouThe ideal candidate will possess:
- A degree in Town Planning (or equivalent) and MRTPI membership (or eligible).
- Significant post-graduate experience within the UK planning system, ideally with a background in development management and/or planning consultancy.
- Strong knowledge of national and local planning policies and processes.
- A proactive, client-focused approach, with excellent communication and negotiation skills.
- Proven ability to manage a varied workload and meet deadlines.
- Experience in mentoring or managing junior team members is highly desirable.
