Site Manager – Leeds/Darlington

I am seeking an experienced Site Manager on behalf of my client, a leading contractor in the highways and transportation sectors. My client had a successful year in 2023 and is gearing up for an even better 2024 with exciting schemes involving highways works, drainage excavations, kerbing, surfacing, concrete works, and more. I am looking for a Site Manager to cover National Highways and Yorivils Frameworks. Due to the large regions covered, willingness to travel or lodge away is required. Depending on the scheme, night shifts may also be necessary.

Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Ensure the team works safely and profitably, adhering to plans to achieve program targets and deliver quality products and services. Conduct safety and quality audits regularly.
  • Manage project works from inception to completion, maintaining high standards of safety and quality throughout.
  • Develop and maintain positive relationships with teams and clients, promoting and protecting the client's reputation while remaining customer-focused.
  • Lead by example, promoting a collaborative culture across the site team, including suppliers and customers. Foster a "safety first" culture on-site.
  • Highly organized with excellent planning and time management abilities.
  • Capable of managing multiple priorities without compromising on safety, standards, and quality.
  • Highly motivated, results-oriented, and positive in outlook.
  • A strong safety-first mindset with the ability to assess and mitigate risks.
  • Tech-savvy with good working knowledge of Microsoft Project.
  • A problem solver who can question designs and produce/explain accurate plans and drawings.

Experience and Qualifications

  • A background in Civil, Structural, or Construction Management on National Highways networks. Experience with a tier 1 contracting group is preferred.
  • Working knowledge of NEC contract conditions, CDM regulations, design management, program and risk management, and cost control including forecasting, actual cost, and value reporting.
  • Ability to lead a team and manage projects up to £10 million. Experience in groundworks, RC structures, steelwork, and building disciplines.
  • Good level of programming experience, preferably with knowledge of Primavera P6 or Microsoft Projects.
  • Degree/HNC in Civil Engineering or equivalent experience or relevant qualification
  • CEng MICE or equivalent (desirable)
  • CSCS Managers card
  • Appointed person CPCS card (desirable)
  • IOSH Managing Safely or SMSTS
  • Temporary Works Co-ordinator (desirable)
  • Leadership experience (desirable)

This is a fantastic opportunity to join a tier 1 contractor with a strong order book and lasting relationships with NH and local councils who have exciting plans for near future in the region. For more information on this role please contact Jack Burton on or via email on
