Job Description

Heart Research UK is a leading non-profit organisation dedicated to stopping people dying from heart diseases. The Research team advances the treatment, prevention and cure of heart diseases through the medical research projects we fund. We are seeking a highly motivated Research Impact and Communications Assistant who will support the Research Impact and Communications Officer in monitoring, assessing and reporting on the progress, outcome and impact of the research that we fund, and communicating this effectively both internally within the Charity and to our external stakeholders.

 

Your role will involve liaising with researchers to gather information, the analysis and interpretation of scientific reports and journal papers, and dissemination both verbally and through written reports for a variety of audiences.

 

You will support the process to gather information about the impact of the research we fund and communicate it clearly to support our fundraising and marketing activities, and to inform our supporters, donors and the wider general public.

 

As a member of the Association of Medical Research Charities (AMRC), our rigorous grants-selection process ensures that we only fund the highest-quality research projects. You will be familiar with other activities of the Research Department and also be involved with the grant-selection process as necessary.

 

Role Responsibilities:

 

Research Impact

 

  • Support impact reporting for the Research department. This includes the production of research highlights, long form topic-focused impact reports as well as periodic impact reports at the portfolio level
  • Collaborate with other departments on charity-wide impact work
  • Assist with the collection of both qualitative and quantitative impact data, using a variety of tools including manual outreach to grantholders
  • Oversee the curation and management of collected impact data
  • Provide support in the writing of impact reports and response to impact-based enquiries

 

Science Communications & Information

 

  • Provide tailored grants information to other departments when required for promotional or fundraising purposes
  • Monitor grant progress by processing interim and final reports submitted by grant holders and writing accessible updates for use by fundraising and marketing departments
  • Generate scientific copy for use across social media and the website, alongside checking other copy for accuracy
  • Maintain records of grant information including the grant handbook and Beacon research grant records
  • Assist with press and promotion of the charity, including speaking at events, press commentary and attendance at conferences.

 

Research Grant Management

 

  • Assist with the grant’s selection process, including eligibility checking of applications, sourcing of external reviewers, and aiding with the running of panel meetings
  • Proficiency in the grants management system, FlexiGrant®
