We are currently looking for a Senior Engineering Geologist to assist in dealing with an increase in workload and the further development and expansion of the team and the Firm. 

We are seeking a motivated and enthusiastic candidate to manage and work on various Geotechnical engineering projects. These projects predominantly cover the north of England, centred on Leeds, but will occasionally include sites across the UK. 

The successful candidate will join a team of Geo-environmental and Engineering Geologists and will be involved in producing Geo-environmental Desk Studies and Site Investigation Reports, Coal Mining Risk Reports, Tenders and Specifications for grouting of mine workings and earthworks, and responses to regulator conditions/queries.

The role is generally office based, but there will be occasional requirements to attend meetings with Clients, supervise site work on a visiting basis, such as grout treatment or earthworks, and occasionally carry out fieldwork activity, such as, logging boreholes and trial pits should workload demand. The candidate will also assist the Department Head with the day to day management of the department and supervision of junior staff and contributing to their development. 

Suitable candidates will have: 

  • Degree in Geology or Engineering Geology (Essential) 
  • Masters in Engineering Geology or Environmental Geology related subject (Desirable) 
  • Chartered Geologist (CGeol) status or evidence of working towards (Essential)
  • Suitable candidates will preferably have at least 10 years’ experience, (but possibly a minimum of 5 years for exceptional candidates), in: 
  • Ground Investigation Techniques 
  • Supervision of fieldwork activity, including organising and directing field operations (equipment and personnel) 
  • Sampling and logging of soil and rock to professional/technical standards 
  • Scheduling of laboratory testing (geotechnical and contamination) 
  • Preparation of interpretative reports on both geotechnical and contamination aspects 
  • Preparation of earth works specification and validation reports 
  • Preparation of Geotechnical and Contamination Remediation strategies and Validation of Remediation 
  • Consultations with Regulators 

The following skills or experience are desirable, but not essential: 

  • Slope stability assessment 
  • CLEA Risk Assessment 
  • Groundwater DQRA
