The Rail North Partnership is a collaboration between the Department for Transport (DfT) and Transport for the North (TfN), which is transforming rail services across the north of England, this is achieved through the joint management of the Northern Trains Ltd (NTL) and TransPennine Express Trains (TPT) rail contracts.

The Transpennine Route Upgrade (TRU) is a major, multi-billion-pound programme of railway improvements which will bring faster and more frequent services for passengers travelling across the Pennines between Manchester, Huddersfield, Leeds and York. It's an ambitious long-term, highly disruptive, programme that'll take years to deliver because of this its important ?track' and ?train' work together to successfully deliver this programme, to fully realise the benefits. It's also key operators provide excellent customer experience during delivery, to minimise the impact of prolonged and significant periods of disruption on customers, thus protecting against the loss of both stakeholder and customer confidence. RNP has a key role in ensuring NTL and TPT are fully enabled to protect their customers, support the delivery of the programme in an efficient, collaborative way, in order to realise the interim and end benefits of TRU as soon as possible.

Transport for the North is England's first Sub-National Transport Body, formed to transform the transport system across the North of England, providing the infrastructure needed to drive economic growth. TfN role is to add strategic value by ensuring that funding and strategy decisions about transport in the North are informed by local knowledge and requirements. This fits with the devolution agenda and we will draw powers down from central government rather than up from local government. TfN is looking to recruit a Senior Project Manager to:

Manage the delivery of large and complex projects, or programmes of work to support delivery of the Trans-Pennine Route Upgrade (TRU), working with senior internal/external stakeholders and partners to ensure delivery against project needs and objectives.

You will be expected to lead a project team or teams and ensure all work and outputs are executed to meet requirements, taking into consideration interdependencies between your work and other programmes of work.

What we're looking for:

The ideal candidate will have demonstrable post qualification experience, in successfully managing large and complex multi-stakeholder projects with the ability to work to tight deadlines and meet operational targets. With knowledge of the rail industry you will also be familiar with timetabling and access planning, with a drive to deliver excellent customer experience during periods of disruption.

You will be an effective communicator with excellent presentational skills and a proven ability to compile clear and concise technical and non-technical reports for a range of political, professional and lay person audiences. Financial management skills with an emphasis on cost management is key as is the ability to work in partnership with and a range of stakeholders. Proven experience dealing with projects that impact the general public and other multiple stakeholders is essential.

Candidates must be educated to degree level or have equivalent experience and possess a professional qualification in project/programme management.
