Are you a dependable and compassionate person eager to expand your experience in Special Education? A well-respected SEND school in Leeds are looking to hire a committed Learning Support Assistant to join their team and support students with special educational needs.

This term time only role offers an ongoing contract with the potential for a permanent position for the right candidate. The school offers tailored education for children with various moderate to severe learning difficulties, including Autism, Dyslexia, motor coordination challenges, genetic disorders, and profound and multiple learning disabilities (PMLD).

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide support to pupils aged 2-18 on a one-on-one basis and in small groups
  • Assist and mentor pupils to foster their engagement in learning and promote personal development
  • Provide nurturing support during break and lunch times
  • Encourage independence and celebrate achievement milestones
  • Diffuse challenging situations and ensure a calm environment
  • Ensure consistency in daily routines for pupils

Skills and Attributes:

  • Ideally have a valid Team Teach certificate - if not, you can do your training through us!
  • The ability to connect effectively with children and young people with additional needs is essential. Experience working with SEN is advantageous, and while personal experience is highly relevant, finding the right character fit is most crucial
  • Be resilient, maintain composure under pressure, and possess the skills to de-escalate challenging situations
  • Be able to remaincalm under pressure
  • Beconfident, enthusiastic,andexceptionally driven
  • Be alert in recognising safeguarding issues and adhering to established protocols
