What makes a good Support Worker?

Previous experience in a Support Worker type role is not essential but an awareness of learning disabilities and challenging behaviours is. What is most important is that you are an empathetic, resilient and robust individual with a genuine passion for supporting others. Having the ability to think on your feet is an important skill for this role as it means that you will be able to adapt to the needs of the people you are supporting.

The role of Lead Senior Support Worker:

The Lead Senior Support Workers are a key link between support staff and management and are often responsible for the day to day running of the service. You will have a busy role that will involve:

  • Accompanying the people we support in the community

The qualities of a Lead Senior Support Worker

A good Lead Senior Support Worker should be able to balance the needs of the service, the Support Workers and the people we support. As a senior member of staff you should be able to inspire confidence in your team and help them make sure the highest quality person-centred support is given at all times. You should have previous experience of social care but don't need to have been in a senior position before.
