Head of Software Engineering

Purpose of the Role:

As the Head of Engineering, you will collaborate closely with the Head of Product to define and execute a technical roadmap that aligns with the product vision and portfolio. You will leverage continuous improvement methodologies to drive engineering innovation, enhance the developer experience, and ensure we have a robust technical platform to support our diverse portfolio of betting products.

You will possess a deep technical understanding of software engineering, cloud services, quality metrics, observability, operational processes, and code agility, utilising code extensibility principles. You will work alongside your engineers to resolve technical issues while maintaining a strong focus on product delivery.

You are a strong people leader, capable of inspiring, motivating, coaching, and mentoring your teams.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and communicate a clear engineering and technical strategy that aligns with the overarching product strategy and our OKRs. This strategy should encompass the technical integration needs of both sides while fostering a collaborative and iterative approach.
  • Identify growth opportunities via metrics and other data points to optimize the flow of value and continually drive the evolution of our engineering roadmap.
  • Lead organisational change initiatives to provide beneficial and pragmatic alignment across both organizations, utilising enterprise awareness.
  • Oversee multiple Engineering Managers and Product Engineering teams, ensuring quality is built into the foundation of products.
  • Lead, develop, and coach a stellar team of engineering managers and technical leads, guiding them in the discovery, prioritization, and execution of business initiatives, ensuring close collaboration with Product leads.
  • Ensure your teams are motivated and productive, achieving real customer and business impact by providing growth opportunities, succession planning, coaching, goal setting, and performance management.
  • Serve as an engineering evangelist both internally and externally, presenting engineering updates and benefits to our engineering teams, stakeholders, and customers.

Essential:

  • A strong delivery focus throughout the software development lifecycle, driving a standards-based approach grounded in industry best practices or pragmatic innovation.
  • Excellent communication skills, comfortable engaging with C-Level executives and presenting at external events.
  • Experience working in and a thorough understanding of a highly regulated environment.

Desirable:

  • Ability to write software in multiple programming languages and maintain an active GitHub profile.
  • A strong passion for software craftsmanship, quality, and clean code, with the ability to demonstrate best practices.
  • A risk-based approach to engineering innovation.
  • A passion for sports, with a deep understanding of the rules, strategies, and the impact of individual players on team performance.
