Position Overview:

We are seeking a highly skilled and strategic Commodity Trader to manage and optimise the procurement of key raw materials for our production facility. This role is critical to ensuring the continuous supply of essential commodities, such as dairy powders, starches, sweeteners, and other critical ingredients, at the best possible terms. The ideal candidate will have a deep understanding of global commodity markets, excellent negotiation skills, and the ability to develop and execute strategic sourcing plans that align with our business objectives.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Commodity Trading & Procurement:
    • Monitor global markets and trends for key raw materials including dairy powders, sweeteners, starches, and other ingredients.
    • Develop and implement commodity trading strategies to mitigate risks associated with price volatility and supply chain disruptions.
    • Execute trades and manage purchasing contracts with suppliers, ensuring optimal pricing and terms.
  • Supplier Management:
    • Build and maintain strong relationships with suppliers, negotiating contracts, prices, and delivery schedules.
    • Identify and qualify new suppliers to diversify sourcing options and reduce risk.
    • Evaluate supplier performance regularly to ensure compliance with quality standards and delivery requirements.
  • Market Analysis & Forecasting:
    • Conduct in-depth market analysis to anticipate commodity price movements and identify opportunities for cost savings.
    • Develop and maintain commodity price forecasts to inform budgeting and financial planning.
    • Work closely with the planning and sales departments to develop the purchasing forecasting plan.
    • Provide regular reports and insights to senior management on market trends, risks, and opportunities.
  • Risk Management:
    • Implement hedging strategies to manage exposure to commodity price fluctuations.
    • Monitor geopolitical, economic, and environmental factors that could impact supply chains and take proactive measures to mitigate risks.
    • Ensure compliance with all relevant regulatory and legal requirements.
  • Collaboration & Cross-Functional Coordination:
    • Work closely with production, logistics, and finance teams to align procurement activities with operational needs.
    • Participate in cross-functional meetings to ensure that supply chain strategies support overall business goals.
    • Support the development of sustainable sourcing initiatives in line with the companys corporate responsibility goals.
  • Continuous Improvement:
    • Drive continuous improvement initiatives within the procurement function, seeking ways to enhance efficiency, reduce costs, and improve supplier performance.
    • Stay updated on industry trends, emerging markets, and new technologies that could benefit the company.

Qualifications:

  • Education: A Diploma or degree in Procurement, Supply Chain Management, Business, Economics, or a related field.
  • Experience:
    • Minimum of 5 years of experience in commodity trading or procurement, preferably within the food, beverage, or ingredients sectors.
    • Proven track record of successfully managing large-scale commodity purchases and supplier relationships.
  • Skills:
    • Strong understanding of global commodity markets and supply chain dynamics.
    • Excellent negotiation and contract management skills.
    • Analytical mindset with the ability to interpret complex market data and trends.
    • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to influence and collaborate across all levels of the organization.
    • Proficiency in using procurement and trading platforms, as well as Microsoft Office Suite.
