We are currently working with an East Midlands based local authority who are recruiting for a Management Accountant to join the council on an interim basis to provide financial management support and business advice to a service department, whilst ensuring strong links with Corporate Resources.

Management Accountant Start Date: ASAPDuration: 3 MonthsRate: Negotiable (Inside IR35) dependent on experience/qualificationsHybrid Working Arrangement: 1 day on site per weekResponsibilities:

  • Work as part of the business partner team providing financial management support and business advice to service departments, whilst ensuring strong and sustainable links are maintained with the Corporate Centre
  • Delivery of accurate, timely and relevant financial information to Senior Managers including financial reporting and analysis, financial planning and submissions to government or partner organisations 
  • Work closely with Finance Business Partners, playing an active part in identifying options that can be taken to optimise short and long-term financial performance and service delivery (efficiency) 
  • Support the development of the Finance function and the service that it provides, taking into account changing organisational and customer requirements
  • Be alert to potential options that can be taken to optimise short and long term financial performance (efficiency). Supporting the development of option appraisals and financial analysis to support continuous improvement 
  • Develop a full understanding of the Department’s needs to ensure that financial issues are identified and support the Business Partner team, working with other Finance teams, in ensuring that departmental managers have the appropriate advice, knowledge and skills to discharge their financial responsibilities 
  • Understand and keep up to date with changes to the way the County Council operates providing appropriate financial advice, including partnerships and projects Support the development of management reports and the related systems to improve the links between financials, operational activity, quality and targeted outcomes

Requirements:

  • NVQ level 4 in a relevant area and membership of AAT or equivalent (Grade 11)
  • CCAB or equivalent qualification or demonstrated experience of working in a finance function and committed to working towards a CCAB or equivalent qualification (Grade 12)
  • Experience of using a large footprint ERP (preferably Oracle) and reporting tools
  • Involvement with finance or business projects, including an understanding of project management principles
  • Experience of working in cross functional teams
