A very exciting client of ours is now seeking a Senior Accountant to join their team. The client is a well-established accountancy and business advisory firm based in Leicester, serving a diverse portfolio of clients since 1999. From its beginnings as a small two-person team, the firm has grown steadily, now boasting a dedicated team of 20+ experienced and qualified professionals. They provide a comprehensive range of financial services, including bookkeeping, VAT, payroll, accounts preparation, taxation, audit, and business valuations, ensuring that clients receive tailored, high-quality support to meet their unique business needs.
Main responsibilities:
Financial Accounts & Reporting
- Preparing statutory accounts for limited companies, partnerships, and sole traders.
- Ensuring compliance with UK GAAP, IFRS, or FRS 102.
- Reviewing and finalising year-end financial statements before submission.
Tax Compliance & Advisory
- Preparing and submitting corporation tax returns (CT600s) and self-assessment tax returns.
- Assisting with VAT returns and ensuring compliance with Making Tax Digital (MTD).
- Advising clients on tax planning strategies to optimise liabilities.
Client Management & Advisory
- Acting as the primary contact for a portfolio of clients.
- Providing business advisory services, such as budgeting, forecasting, and cash flow management.
- Attending client meetings to discuss financial performance and tax matters.
Audit & Assurance
- Assisting with external audits, preparing working papers, and liaising with auditors.
- Reviewing internal controls and advising clients on financial improvements.
Software & Systems Management
- Using accounting software such as Xero, QuickBooks, Sage, IRIS, and TaxCalc.
- Implementing cloud-based accounting solutions for clients.
Team Leadership & Training
- Supervising and mentoring junior accountants and trainees.
- Reviewing work completed by junior staff before submission.
- Assisting with training on new accounting standards, tax changes, and software updates.
Qualifications:
- ACCA, ACA, or CIMA Qualified (or Part-Qualified)
- Relevant Accounting & Audit Experience - At least 3-5 years of experience in an accountancy practice
- Strong UK GAAP, IFRS, or FRS 102 Knowledge
- Tax Knowledge (Corporation Tax, VAT, Self-Assessment)
Desirable Skills & Experience:
- Audit Experience
- Proficiency in Accounting Software - Xero, QuickBooks, Sage, IRIS, or TaxCalc.
- Client-Facing Experience - Strong communication skills to manage a portfolio of SME and corporate clients.
- Team Leadership & Review Experience - Mentoring junior accountants and reviewing their work.
