Premises and Grounds Officer

We are seeking a dedicated Premises and Grounds Officer to maintain a safe, clean, secure, and well-maintained environment for students, staff, and visitors. This role is crucial in ensuring the smooth operation and security of the college facilities.

Day-to-day of the role:
  • Participate in the keyholder rota, managing the opening and closing of the college, including performing full security checks and securing buildings at the end of the day.
  • Respond to alarm activations, undertake security checks during close-down periods, and assist in controlling vehicle access and car park operations.
  • Act as a fire marshal during evacuations, ensuring that fire appliances, doors, notices, and signs are in good working order and that escape routes are clear.
  • Assist with routine maintenance, compliance checks, and the identification and reporting of any premises faults or safety concerns.
  • Support the emergency services as required and participate in the First Aid rota, providing necessary aid to staff, students, and visitors.
  • Handle deliveries, assist with the distribution and movement of goods and furniture, and set up rooms for teaching and other functions.
  • Perform general maintenance tasks, light grounds maintenance, and operate machinery and hand tools safely.
  • Ensure adherence to the college’s policies and procedures regarding health and safety, equality, and safeguarding of students.
Required Skills & Qualifications:
  • Experience in facilities management or a similar role.
  • Ability to participate in shift work, including occasional weekends and call-outs.
  • Physical ability to lift and carry items in line with manual handling guidelines and to patrol the college in all weathers.
  • Familiarity with health and safety regulations and a commitment to maintaining high standards of safety and security.
  • Willingness to obtain or maintain a First Aid at Work qualification.
  • Good communication skills and the ability to work effectively as part of a team.
