Our client is looking for an experienced Building Control Team Manager to provide decisive and effective leadership in line with the council’s ‘Vision & Values’ and ‘Leadership Qualities’. The role involves managing the Building Control team to ensure that buildings and structures in Leicester comply with statutory requirements regarding accessibility, quality, safety, and environmental efficiency.
Day to Day of the role:
- Formally manage and develop approximately 8 council employees and supervise matrix-managed staff and those temporarily deployed for projects.
- Provide clear direction and effective people and performance management by setting objectives, agreeing outcomes, and holding individuals and teams accountable.
- Plan and lead the team’s response to high-risk emergency incidents and complex applications for Building Control.
- Offer specialist advice on building regulation matters to team members, other officers, external agencies, and court.
- Manage the budget, including monitoring income and expenditure, authorising payments, and ensuring competitiveness within the market.
- Carry out other miscellaneous duties associated with the role.
Required Skills & Qualifications:
- Extensive experience in a relevant Building Control environment.
- Proven experience in effective management of staff and resources.
- Experience in managing a budget with significant incomes.
- LABC Accredited Member or equivalent.
- In-depth knowledge of the Building Act and Building Regulations.
- Proficiency in the use of Uniform (or equivalent system) and other IT work applications.
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to undertake high-level negotiations.
- Ability to work outside normal office hours and participate in an emergency rota.
