An established construction consultancy based in Leicester is seeking a skilled Principal Designer to join their growing team. Specialising in education construction projects, this consultancy has built a strong reputation for delivering high-quality, safe, and innovative solutions.

This is a fantastic opportunity to work on impactful projects, ensuring compliance with CDM 2015 regulations while contributing to the design and construction of state-of-the-art educational facilities.

The Principal Designer Role

As the Principal Designer, you will take a key role in managing design risk and embedding health and safety into all project stages. Working closely with clients, contractors, and design teams, you will ensure projects meet the highest safety standards while maintaining efficiency and functionality. This is an exciting opportunity to make a meaningful contribution to the education sector through your expertise.

Principal Designer Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver Principal Designer duties in accordance with CDM 2015 regulations.
  • Conduct design risk assessments and develop hazard elimination strategies.
  • Prepare and review pre-construction information and construction phase plans.
  • Provide CDM and health and safety advice to clients, architects, and contractors.
  • Attend site inspections and audits to ensure compliance with safety standards.
  • Collaborate with clients and design teams to deliver safe and effective solutions.
  • Mentor and support junior team members within the consultancy.

The Principal Designer

  • Degree in a construction-related field or equivalent experience.
  • NEBOSH Construction Certificate or equivalent qualification.
  • Membership of APS (AaPS, IMaPS, or CMaPS) is desirable.
  • 2+ years proven experience as a Principal Designer.
  • Strong understanding of CDM 2015 regulations and health and safety practices.
  • Excellent communication and client-facing skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects effectively and work to deadlines.
