We are currently seeking an experienced Area Supervisor to oversee operations across multiple waste sites in Leicestershire. This hands-on supervisory role is essential for maintaining the Council’s high standards in waste management and requires a candidate with HR experience and the ability to manage site staff effectively.

Day-to-day of the role:
  • Travel to the Council’s Recycling and Household Waste Sites (RHWSs) and Waste Transfer Stations (WTSs) daily to perform HR-related tasks.
  • Support the onboarding process for new starters, conduct one-to-ones, return to work discussions, and handle low-level policy discussions.
  • Deliver training through workbooks, e-learning, toolbox talks, and other training packages/safety briefings.
  • Monitor and enforce the Council’s safe systems of work and risk assessments for all site operations.
  • Ensure accurate records for waste movements and adherence to the Council’s Quality Management System.
  • Issue, monitor, and record PPE and uniforms to staff.
  • Drive a Council 3.5-tonne box van as required.
  • Handle low-level complaints from customers face-to-face, by telephone, and by email.
  • Wear a Body Worn Camera (BWC) as part of the uniform for all field-based staff.
Required Skills & Qualifications:
  • Good IT, interpersonal, numeracy, and literacy skills.
  • Experience dealing with customers and line managing multiple staff.
  • Experience delivering training packages.
  • Valid UK driver’s licence for driving up to a 3.5-tonne vehicle, access to own vehicle, and insurance to cover business use.
Desirable:
  • Valid and relevant Certificate of Technical Competence with evidence of continued competence.
  • Experience driving a vehicle up to 3.5 tonnes.
Additional Information:
  • Working pattern: 37 to 40 hours per week across 7 days, including mandatory weekend work (1 in 2 or 1 in 3).
  • Overtime availability.
  • Hybrid working: Mainly field-based with minimal work from home or County Hall.
  • Mileage claims: Agreed upon a base/work location for standard commute mileage, with claims for additional daily mileage.
