We are currently working with an East Midlands based Local Authority seeking an experienced Head of Finance to oversee financial management, governance, and strategic planning within the corporate resources division of the council.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Leading and developing high-performing finance teams, ensuring effective people and performance management.
  • Providing expert financial advice to senior officers, the Executive, Scrutiny Committees, and external stakeholders.
  • Managing key financial functions, including budgeting, treasury management, VAT/taxation, and financial operations.
  • Ensuring financial compliance with local government regulations and statutory reporting deadlines.
  • Driving efficiency and value for money, identifying innovative solutions to financial challenges.
  • Supporting major projects by offering financial insight and strategic recommendations.

Requirements:

  • Proven experience in a senior local government finance role.
  • Strong leadership skills with the ability to manage teams effectively.
  • In-depth knowledge of public sector finance, including budgeting, treasury, and statutory reporting.
  • Ability to provide strategic financial advice to senior leadership and elected members.
  • Experience working with auditors, external bodies, and financial regulators.
  • Professional qualification (e.g., ACA, ACCA, CIMA,CIPFA or equivalent)
