Strategic Finance Officer

We are seeking a Strategic Finance Officer to play a pivotal role in developing and enhancing the provision of financial support, advice, and information to schools and service departments. This role is crucial for supporting effective strategic decision-making and the delivery of the medium-term financial strategy and school funding. The successful candidate will also deputise for the Strategic Finance Manager as required.

Day-to-day of the role:
  • Develop and improve the provision of financial support to schools and service departments to aid in strategic decision-making.
  • Analyse national school funding policies and assess their impact on Leicestershire’s maintained schools and academies.
  • Maintain a timetable of national and local key school funding deadlines and activities, ensuring adherence and compliance within maintained schools.
  • Lead and support the Leicestershire Schools Forum on school funding matters, ensuring statutory responsibilities are met in accordance with national legislation.
  • Maintain the Leicestershire Scheme for Financing Schools, ensuring compliance with statutory guidance and effective governance and finance delivery within maintained schools.
  • Reflect school finance issues in the development of school-related strategies, corporate projects, and corporate reporting.
  • Develop management reports and related systems to enhance the integration of corporate and school financial information with operational activities and outcomes.
  • Identify and implement options for improving efficiency and service delivery outcomes in relation to school funding.
Required Skills & Qualifications:
  • Proven experience in financial management or a similar role, preferably within an educational or public sector environment.
  • Strong understanding of school funding policies and financial strategies.
  • Ability to interpret complex financial data and legal documents.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong leadership skills and the ability to act as a deputy to the Strategic Finance Manager.
  • Proficient in managing multiple deadlines and compliance requirements.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, capable of working collaboratively with multiple stakeholders.
