Faculty / Directorate

The Registry Services Directorate comprises responsibility for the administration of the student journey from registration to graduation, and consists of the following functions: student records, quality assurance, UKVI compliance, timetabling, student records, examinations, awards and graduations, and student casework.

Role

As the Deputy Director and Head of Academic Quality, you will lead the strategic direction, development, and implementation of academic quality assurance policy and practice at De Montfort University. Reporting to the Director of Registry Services, this senior leadership role ensures that the university’s academic activities meet the highest quality standards, comply with regulatory requirements, and deliver outstanding outcomes for students. You will embed a culture of continuous improvement, quality enhancement, and student-centred co-creation across the institution, supporting DMU’s commitment to academic excellence.

• Oversee the development and implementation of a robust framework for academic quality and standards, aligned with national and international regulatory requirements.

• Provide strategic advice to senior leadership, including the Pro Vice-Chancellor Education and Equalities, on quality assurance and enhancement matters.

• Lead the Academic Quality team, ensuring they provide efficient, effective, and proactive support to faculties, professional services, and university partners.

• Monitor regulatory developments, advising the university on proactive responses to changes in the higher education landscape.

• Embed a risk-based approach to quality assurance, streamlining policies to reduce bureaucracy while maintaining high standards.

• Champion student voice in the design and delivery of quality assurance and enhancement initiatives, ensuring that policies reflect co-creation and inclusivity.

• Lead and participate in committees, preparing the university’s annual academic quality report and ensuring governance systems operate effectively.

• Act as Deputy to the Director of Registry Services, providing leadership in their absence.
