We are currently looking for a dedicated and experienced Transport Controller to join our Stoney Stanton site in Leicester. This is a fantastic opportunity to lead a dynamic team, ensuring the safe, timely, and efficient distribution of gas supplies while meeting all regulatory and operational requirements.

Role OverviewAs the Transport Controller, you will be a key member of the management team, responsible for leading and motivating staff and drivers to achieve operational excellence. You will oversee daily delivery planning, ensuring optimal and legal utilisation of drivers and vehicles, while promoting a "Safety First" culture across the site and region.

In this role, you will ensure full compliance with transport and HSE regulations, assist in continuous improvement initiatives, and work towards achieving 100% On Time In Full (OTIF) performance. You’ll also manage KPIs, vehicle maintenance, and driver performance to deliver the best possible customer experience.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead, motivate, and manage staff and drivers to meet company objectives.
  • Plan and execute gas deliveries, ensuring compliance with transport and safety regulations.
  • Monitor driver performance, adhering to statutory, WTD, and HSE requirements.
  • Ensure full compliance with internal policies and procedures, including stock and gas reconciliation processes.
  • Promote a "Right First Time" culture focused on safety and customer service.
  • Assist the Area Cylinder Manager in driving continuous improvements, cost efficiency, and operational performance.
  • Manage driver and vehicle scheduling using company systems (TrakM8, Mix Telematics, Trutac, and Paragon).
  • Conduct regular safety briefings and manage fleet safety checks, including CPC and Tachograph records.
  • Work with senior management to prepare and manage budgets, ensuring cost and service levels are met within agreed KPIs.

Key Skills & Experience

  • Proven leadership and people management skills, experience in a management or supervisory role in a service-led environment.
  • Strong understanding of current transport and employment legislation, as well as relevant health and safety regulations.

Essential Qualifications:

  • IOSH or NEBOSH certification, Transport Manager CPC qualification.
  • IT literate with experience using transport management software
  • ADR certificate or experience in hazardous goods handling is desirable.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build and maintain strong internal and external relationships.
  • Experience in managing budgets and achieving financial targets through KPIs.
