We are looking for an Insurance and Claims Officer to work with Leicester City Council assisting the Principal Insurance Officer to investigate and recommend action on insurance claims brought against the council which are disputed or possibly fraudulent.

Key Responsibilities:
- Investigate and manage a caseload of insurance claims against the council, including identifying potential fraud.
- Assess liability by reviewing case details, evidence, and working with relevant council departments.
- Conduct interviews and negotiations with claimants, legal representatives, and other stakeholders.
- Prepare and recommend cases for legal challenge, including injury compensation claims.
- Instruct Loss Adjusters when necessary and liaise with external experts.
- Identify trends and propose procedural improvements to reduce future claims and improve efficiency.
- Arrange site meetings to assess incidents and gather supporting evidence.
- Ensure claims are accurately documented, justified, and pursued with insurers.
- Repudiate claims where there is no legal liability, providing clear justification.
- Maintain accurate records in compliance with data protection regulations.
- Stay updated on relevant legislation, industry guidelines, and best practices.
- Handle complex or difficult claimants professionally, ensuring fair treatment.
- Promote and adhere to council policies on equality, employment, and service delivery.
Key Skills and Qualifications:
- Progressing towards and willing to complete ACII qualification or equivalent knowledge & experienceÂ
- An understanding of common law negligence
- An understanding of the management of risk.
- European Computer Driving Licence or equivalent knowledge.
- Customer Service qualification or course attended and/or equivalent experience.
- An appreciation of roles and structures in a local authority environment
- Working experience of dealing with claims for an insurance company or large organisation.
- Experience of using office-based ICT applications for e-mail, internet access, word processing, spread sheet analysis and database updating.
