JOB - Mechanical Design EngineerLOCATION - LeicesterTERM - PermanentSALARY - £35,000 to £45,000 per annum (plus benefits)Premier Engineering is working with a well-established engineering company based in Leicester that is looking to hire a Mechanical Design Engineer. This role is ideal for someone with machinery design experience and strong proficiency in SolidWorks.The Mechanical Design Engineer will ideally have the following attributes:
  • A degree or qualification in Mechanical Engineering (BEng, MEng, HND, HNC, etc.).
  • Minimum of 3-5 years' experience in mechanical design, specifically within machinery or automation.
  • Strong proficiency in SolidWorks for 3D modelling and technical drawings.
  • Experience with fabrication, sheet metal, and machined component design.
  • Knowledge of mechanical systems, hydraulics, pneumatics, and drive systems is desirable.
  • Understanding of manufacturing processes and Design for Manufacture (DFM) principles.
  • Ability to produce detailed technical drawings, BOMs, and design documentation.
  • Strong problem-solving skills with excellent attention to detail.
  • Good communication skills and ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
The Mechanical Design Engineer role will involve:
  • Designing and developing machinery and automated systems using SolidWorks.
  • Producing detailed 3D models, technical drawings, and engineering documentation.
  • Generating and managing Bills of Materials (BOMs).
  • Collaborating with manufacturing and production teams to ensure designs are feasible and cost-effective.
  • Conducting design reviews, testing, and implementing design modifications where necessary.
  • Working closely with clients and internal teams to ensure project requirements are met.
  • Ensuring all designs comply with relevant industry standards and safety regulations.
