We are pleased to be recruiting for a Firearms Licensing Support Administrator to join Leciestershire Police Force, based at Mansfield House, Leicester.

This is a temporary assignment until at least July 2025, working Monday - Friday 37 hours per week with an element of Agile working

Job Role /Purpose:

Clerical and administrative responsibility for all aspects of the licensing of shotguns. To visit and interview applicants for shotgun renewals.

Essential knowledge:

To be educated to GCSE Grade C or equivalent in English Language and Maths or be able to demonstrate the ability to the above level by work experience.

CORE RESPONSIBILITIES/ ACCOUNTABILITIES

Operational:

Process applications for the grant and renewal of shotgun certificates using the National Firearm Licensing Management System (NFLMS).

Undertake enquiries into the suitability of applicants using Force IT systems.

Issue certificates and permits as appropriate.

Maintain records by updating and amending as appropriate.

Raise revocation and refusal papers as instructed by the Office Team Leader.

Undertake other administrative and clerical duties as required by the Office Team Leader or Licensing Manager.

Visit and interview applicants for the grant or renewal of a shotgun.

Communication:

Respond to enquiries by telephone, email and in person from police officers, police staff and the public in connection with firearms and explosives licensing policy, procedure and legislation.

Administration:

Receive fees in connection with shotgun and firearm applications.

Receive weapons and ammunition for disposal.

Produce renewal reminders on a weekly basis.

General:

Actively promote equality of opportunity, work towards eliminating discrimination and promote good relations between all groups of people.

Produce lists of overdue renewal applications and instigate enquiries.

Undertake such other duties commensurate with the post as may be required for the safe and effective performance of the job.

This role description should develop along with the changing demands of policing reflected in Force Objectives and priorities.

Be flexible in terms of working location and be prepared to work temporarily at other locations within the Force area, undertaking a similar role.

Work Experience:

Demonstrate experience in an administration related environment using computerised systems.

Demonstrate ability to work to strict deadlines in a pressurised environment whilst maintaining accuracy and attention to detail.

Demonstrates the ability to work as part of a team and contribute to the successful performance of the team by co-operating and supporting others.

Demonstrate communicating effectively at all levels both in writing and verbally especially when dealing with sensitive and stressful issues using appropriate methods to ensure that the needs of the audience are met.

Personal / Interpersonal Skills, Aptitudes:

Demonstrates the ability to provide a high-quality service to individuals and the communities we serve whilst managing customer expectations, including the ability to adapt to new ways of working and its demands.

Demonstrates the ability to take personal responsibility for making things happen and achieving results. Whilst displaying motivation, commitment, perseverance, conscientiousness and a high degree of integrity.

To have knowledge of Police Officer and Police staff terms and conditions.

Demonstrates experience of compiling well-structured reports and written summaries.

Demonstrates the ability to suggest changes to existing systems in order to achieve improvements.

Must have the ability and be willing to travel within the BCU/Directorate to carry out activities associated with the role.
