This provision caters for the needs of SEMH children and challenging behaviours, at risk of being permanently excluded from mainstream schooling. The aim is to manage student behaviour back down to a level where they are able to return to a mainstream setting.

About Us:We are a dedicated behavioural provision catering to students aged 4-16 with a variety of Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) needs, as well as challenging and complex behaviours. Our mission is to provide a supportive and nurturing environment where every student can achieve their full potential, with the aim of successfully transitioning our pupils back into mainstream education. Job Purpose:To support the educational and emotional development of students with SEMH needs and challenging behaviours, ensuring they have the best possible opportunities to succeed.You will provide vital classroom support and encourage the academic development of the students through being a conscientious, empathetic, but stern role model both inside and outside the classroom.Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide individualised support for students, both one-on-one and in small interventions.
  • Assist in the development and implementation of Individual Education Plans (IEPs) tailored to each student's needs.
  • Support classroom management and promote positive behaviour through consistent and fair SEND practices.
  • Collaborate with teachers, therapists, and other professionals to create a safe and inclusive learning environment for all.
  • Monitor and record student progress, providing regular feedback to teachers and parents.
  • Participate in staff meetings, training sessions, and professional development opportunities where required.
  • Implement strategies to support students' social and emotional development.
  • Assist with the preparation of learning materials and classroom resources.
  • Provide support during school activities, including outings and special events.

Person Specification:We are looking for high-energy and committed individuals to join our growing team of teaching assistants, behaviour mentors, and educational practitioners. The successful candidate will be passionate about making a difference to the lives of our students with an ability to take on new challenges and to contribute to your own professional development. We are keen to receive applications from a background in sports, music, or drama/performance arts. Essential:

  • Experience working with children or young people with SEMH needs and challenging behaviours.
  • A relevant qualification in education, childcare, or a related field.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to build positive relationships with students, staff, and parents.
  • Patience, resilience, and a positive attitude.
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team.
  • Commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people.

Desirable:

  • Additional training or qualifications in SEMH, behaviour management, or special education.
  • Experience working in a Pupil Referral Unit or similar setting.
  • Knowledge of relevant legislation and best practices in supporting students with SEMH needs.
