Hays are working in partnership with a small SEN school in rural Leicestershire to find a SEN Teacher to join their welcoming team on a full-time basis from September 2025. This is a term-time, temporary-to-permanent position. The school is looking for a Teacher with QTS who specialises in English and/or Geography and has experience of working with pupils with SEMH, ASD and ADHD.
Your new school
This Ofsted rated 'Good' school provides a holistic, alternative education for young people aged 11-17 who haven't been able to progress in traditional settings. The school is situated on a picturesque 8-acre small-holding between Leicester and Hinckley and operates as a traditional farm with animals including horses, donkeys and rabbits which the pupils take responsibility for rearing. Pupils benefit from a therapeutic approach which allows them to grow, mature and achieve their potential in an environment which fosters a culture of community and fun.
Your new role
This is a temporary-to-permanent, full-time job to start in September 2025. You'll teach English Language, English Literature and Geography up to GCSE level and work with like-minded practitioners to deliver a holistic, therapeutic education to pupils who are unable to access mainstream education. You will teach classes of up to 5 pupils with the support of a teaching assistant enabling you to offer dedicated 1:1 time to each pupil. To support your development, the school provides training for its practitioners every Wednesday afternoon alongside yearly Team Teach training. You will also have access to free Hays training courses designed to support your continued professional development. Hays Teachers make a positive impact on the lives of children and young people who have a range of care needs, life experiences and personalities which make every day different!
What you need to succeed
To succeed in your new job, you'll hold Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) and specialise in teaching English up to GCSE level with experience teaching Geography, too. We welcome applications from teachers with backgrounds in Primary, Secondary or SEN education as well as Early Career Teachers (ECTs). Whatever your background you will be a proactive educator with a passion for providing a bespoke, holistic education for SEN pupils. You'll have a positive approach to behaviour management and knowledge of de-escalation techniques. It is desirable, but not essential, that you have experience supporting pupils with Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) needs, Autism Spectrum Conditions (ASD) and/or Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD). Most importantly, you'll be confident stepping into a new school and ready to support pupils with a range of needs.
