Role Overview:
Our Leicestershire based clients require a health & safety assistant to support the Health & Safety Manager with the day-to-day operations of the workshop and offices, ensuring compliance with relevant health and safety regulations in a full time and permanent role.
The role:
- Assisting the H&S Manager with maintaining H&S standards, managing compliance, and supporting with related administrative tasks
- Assist in the development, implementation, and maintenance of health and safety policies, procedures.
- Carry out risk assessments and consider how risks could be reduced.
- Monitor and update risk assessments to ensure full compliance with regulations
- Support our operational team with writing safe operating procedures (SOP’s) which identify and consider all relevant hazards
- Liaise closely with the Team Leaders and Managers regarding matters of concern in connection with health and safety and support with corrective actions/solutions
- Support with data and analysis of workplace accidents, incidents, and near misses, ensuring appropriate actions are taken.
- Assist in investigating health and safety incidents, compiling reports, and making recommendations for corrective actions
- Support regular safety audits and inspections to ensure safety protocols are effective
- Maintain accurate documentation of health and safety compliance and audit results.
- Promote a proactive Health and safety culture among employees
- Participate in health and safety committee meetings, and accurately record and distribute minutes
- Keep up-to-date with new legislation and maintain a working knowledge of all Health and Safety Executive (HSE) legislation and any developments that affect the employer's industry.
- Advise on a range of specialist areas, e.g., fire regulations, hazardous substances, noise, safeguarding machinery, and occupational diseases.
The person:
- A minimum of one - two years’ work experience in Health and Safety, ideally within the Manufacturing or Construction sector.
- Ideally NEBOSH qualified in Occupational Health & Safety (General Certificate)
- Must be self-motivated with a positive can-do attitude.
- Be able to work on their own initiative
- Have excellent planning, time management and organisational skills, with the ability to multi-task
- A collaborative team player with excellent communication skills
- Proficient in Microsoft Word and Excel
