Job Title: Fleet Vehicle TechnicianLocation: Leicester (LE7 7GL)Salary: Up to £16.59 per hourHours: 37.5 per week - Monday to FridayLength of the contract: Temporary Gi Group are now seeking to appoint an experienced Vehicle Technician to our Public Sector client based in Leicester. The Vehicle Technician will be responsible for the efficient maintenance and repair of a fleet of vehicles, ensuring they remain in a safe and operational condition to support the high-paced delivery of 24/7 healthcare vehicles. The post holder will also utilise their advanced technical skills and expertise to maximise vehicle availability by independently diagnosing, troubleshooting, and resolving complex mechanical and electrical issues across a range of vehicles. This includes cars and light commercial vehicles with both internal combustion engines (ICE) and battery electric vehicles (BEV). Also, where applicable third party owned vehicles.Duties of the Vehicle Technician

  • Carry out effective overhaul, repair and servicing of the complex vehicle systems and equipment fitted to Trust Vehicles in a safe economical and timely manner employing skills and knowledge as required.
  • Carry out effective repair and service of specialist equipment used on ambulance vehicles within the skills and training given. .
  • The post holder will be required daily to lift move and transport spares/equipment within the Trust and to other sites where the department has a maintenance commitment. This includes loading/unloading vehicles and travelling between sites.
  • To prepare new vehicles for service and old vehicles for disposal.
  • To repair and maintain specialist equipment such as stretchers and wheelchairs to industry standards.
  • Carry out road tests to determine faults as required.
  • Verify completion of repairs and maintenance by functional test and or road test.
  • To test and diagnose faults on vehicles with the aid of the complex diagnostic equipment available. If suitably qualified to undertake the testing of vehicles within an MOT registered Test Station to the required standards and document these tests.
  • Work with the minimum of supervision and ability to manage own workload, working on initiative with ability to make decisions on vehicle repairs in the absence of a Team Leader.
  • Note and report additional work arising to the Team Leader for decision on the scope of repairs to be undertaken.
  • To accurately record all work carried out, materials used, and any other details as required by management or team leader in support of the Trusts Fleet management system.
  • Attend damaged or defected vehicles as directed by Team Leader to effect repairs or liaise with VRC/division to arrange recovery of Trust vehicles, always observing appropriate safety and traffic regulations. These duties may also include participation in an out of hours call out rota if applicable or working at an alternative location.
  • To have due regard to the health and safety of yourself and others, reporting any accidents or hazards immediately. Ensuring all correct H&S procedures are followed in the workshops and at scene.

Role Criteria

  • City & Guilds/NVQ in Motor Vehicle Engineering or equivalent
  • L3 Electric Vehicle / hybrid vehicle Qualification.
  • Full, current driving licence, work towards C1 if not already gained within probation period.
  • Evidence of continuous professional development
  • Pass Trust driving test
  • F Gas - Refrigerant Handling Qualification
  • Minimum of one year's post training with Auto electrical experience in servicing & maintaining cars & vehicles up to 7.5 tonnes
  • The post holder must have specialist knowledge of motor vehicle electrical systems and mechanical components.
  • A comprehensive knowledge of a range of computer-based vehicle diagnostic systems with the ability to analyse and interpret the information presented to determine the most appropriate repair.
  • To have the ability to diagnose all other vehicle faults without access to diagnostic equipment and use route cause analysis to identify reoccurring issues and report these to management.
  • Excellent Organisational Skills with ability to work to deadlines and prioritise workload.
  • Attention to detail and concentration skills,.
  • Keyboard skills / PC literate
  • Knowledge of software systems related to diagnostic tooling and other equipment.
  • Specialist knowledge of vehicle systems
  • Good communication (verbal and written) and relationship skills.
  • A good understanding of health and safety requirements within a workshop setting. Manage COSHH hazards within department and clinical areas
