We are recruiting for an experienced HGV Maintenance Controller which is hybrid, 2 days a week in Syston and you will be working a 37.3 hour week and reporting to the Senior Fleet Engineering Manager, the role holder will take ownership for seeing through mechanical repairs to our vehicle assets at the best balance of cost and time off the road.

The HGV Maintenance Controller reviews the repair costs of the vehicles as they are quoted, negotiating as required. They are responsible for sourcing parts and arranging repairs for breakdowns/VOR as required, as well as advising and liaising with our breakdown service provider on the most suitable repair locations.

The role holder offers expert advice on maintenance requirements and assists the fleet maintenance team and depot managers on supporting investigations and repairs.

The role holder will work with our operations, logistics and repair partners to ensure our vehicle maintenance requirements are minimised. Acting with a continuous improvement mindset, the role holder is a key part of the Fleet Maintenance team.

  • Monitor and report on daily VOR. Liaise with workshops, fleet maintenance colleagues, tanker maintenance manager and repair agents to optimise vehicle downtime
  • Manage the workflow through the tranman vehicle management system - reviewing the provisional repair spend and approving as appropriate
  • Review and negotiate/amend quoted repair prices as appropriate with workshops and manufacturers
  • Work with our repair agents to ensure the best value is achieved for the client whilst ensuring our critical delivery assets are returned to use in a timely manner
  • Accountable for identifying areas where our preventative maintenance regime can be improved to the benefit of the client
  • Work closely cross functionally to deliver the vehicles required by the business on the road and safe to operate
  • Work as part of the Fleet Maintenance team engaging with internal and external stakeholders to continuously improve the ways of working

To be sucessful in this role we are looking for the following

  • Organisation and Attention to Detail
  • PC literate - Knowledge of Microsoft Office
  • Ability to analyse maintenance and financial data
  • Mechanical knowledge of HGV's relating to their build, maintenance and operation - essential
  • Commercial and Business Acumen
  • Confidence in managing suppliers and supplier national account managers
  • Excellent communication skills, capable of liaising with suppliers on behalf of the client
  • CPC holder desirable but not essential
  • Experience of Hazardous Goods desirable but not essential
  • Willingness to learn essential
  • Passionate about continuous improvement
  • Capable of working in a fast paced environment
  • Great interpersonal skills with a confident and professional communication style
  • Able to present updates within a team environment
