Leicester City Council are looking for a skilled Vehicle Technician for a temporary full-time role lasting 1 to 2 months. This position involves maintaining the council’s fleet of vehicles, plant, and equipment, ensuring they are in top condition through inspection, servicing, and repair. While driving is not the core function, it is part of the job to road test vehicles after work is complete.

Day-to-day of the role:
  • Carry out vehicle, plant, and equipment inspections, servicing, test preparations, fault diagnostics, maintenance, and repairs.
  • Complete all written or computerised vehicle and job sheet records upon completion of work, including descriptions of work carried out, parts used, and time taken.
  • Interpret information from drivers and users of plant and equipment, provide advice on actions to be taken, and give feedback on work completed.
  • Manage own workload to meet customer service standards, including repair priorities.
  • Work as part of a team to provide a high-quality and efficient vehicle maintenance service.
  • Undertake all works in compliance with the council’s health & safety policies and current industry regulations.
  • Ensure all work is carried out efficiently, e.g., by utilising new technology and equipment.
  • Continuously update skills and share knowledge regarding vehicle maintenance developments.
Required Skills & Qualifications:
  • Experience in vehicle maintenance and repair.
  • Proficiency in using diagnostic equipment and tools.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Strong organisational and communication skills.
  • Valid full UK driving licence.
