Reeson Education is working with a specialist SEMH school in WN7, Wigan, to recruit a Teaching Assistant to support pupils aged 11 to 16 years with social, emotional, and mental health needs. This full-time, long-term role offers the opportunity to work in a structured, therapeutic environment designed to support pupils with complex needs.

This SEMH school provides a highly supportive and nurturing environment for secondary-aged pupils facing challenges related to mental health, emotional regulation, and behavioural difficulties. The school offers small class sizes, a therapeutic approach to learning, and a dedicated team of specialists, including teachers, therapists, and Teaching Assistants, all working together to help pupils succeed academically and socially.
Key Responsibilities for the Teaching Assistant:
- Provide classroom support as a Teaching Assistant to students with SEMH needs
- Work 1:1 and in small groups to support emotional regulation, social skills, and academic learning
- Assist in behaviour management and help create a structured, supportive environment
- Collaborate with teachers and therapists to implement tailored support strategies
- Foster positive relationships and encourage student engagement in lessons and activities
Requirements for the Teaching Assistant:
- Passion for supporting young people with SEMH needs
- Experience working with pupils with behavioural or mental health challenges (desirable but not essential)
- A patient, resilient, and adaptable approach
- Willingness to work as part of a dedicated and multidisciplinary team
- Commitment to a long-term role in a specialist setting
