Back to searchI am urgently seeking a Warehouse Operations Controller for my client based in Letchworth for a permanent role and an immediate start.
JOB SUMMARY / OVERALL PURPOSE OF ROLE:
As a Warehouse Operations Manager, you will play a crucial role in ensuring the efficient and effective management of my clients Warehouse Operation at their Letchworth warehouse and Barnsley satellite warehouse. You will oversee all aspects of warehouse management, including inventory control, order fulfilment, logistics, and personnel management.
KEY RESPONSIBILITES:
Warehouse Management:
Lead, plan, and manage daily warehouse operations to ensure smooth and efficient processes.
Oversee inventory management, including accurate recordkeeping, cycle counting, and reconciling discrepancies.
Optimize warehouse layout and storage systems for maximum space utilization.
Drive continuous improvement across processes, workflow, inventory, and efficiency through the development and implementation of effective strategies.
Produce, analyse and report on key performance indicators (KPIs) such as throughput, returns, errors and inventory to all levels of the business.
Strive for service excellence, making the customer the primary focus, and ensure compliance with legal, safety, and regulatory requirements.
Order Fulfilment:
Monitor and improve order picking, packing, and shipping processes to meet customer demands accurately and on time. This includes being hands-on and processing orders as and when required to maintain the high level of customer service.
Implement quality control procedures to ensure products meet company standards and manage the non-conformance process for failures.
Maintain customer compliance and exceed customer expectations through close coordination with the Sales Admin and Purchasing teams.
Team Leadership:
Supervise and mentor warehouse staff, providing training and guidance to ensure their success and development.
Maintain a positive and productive work environment, fostering teamwork and accountability.
Conduct performance evaluations and address performance issues as needed.
Deputise for the Head of Finance & Operations, attending business meetings at all levels and serving as the direct operations contact internally and externally.
Set and communicate business expectations through regular meetings with the team, and be responsible for hiring, developing, and managing staff, including performance management, disciplinaries, and one-on-one meetings.
Transport Management:
Liaise with Couriers and Freight Forwarders for inbound and outbound shipments to ensure a seamless process.
Management of the company vehicle fleet (van and forklift) maintenance, upkeep, utilisation
Health and Safety:
Ensure the warehouse complies with safety regulations and maintain a safe working environment for all employees.
Implement and enforce safety protocols, including training, equipment maintenance, and emergency response procedures.
In addition to the duties and responsibilities listed, the jobholder is required to carry out such other duties as may be required and as may be assigned by the Company from time to time.
KEY REQUIREMENTS
Proven experience of managing a fast moving warehouse environment. (Min 2 years, preferably in a Wholesale / Distribution operation)
Demonstrable track record in leadership within a warehousing and logistics role.
A confident leader and decision maker, able to articulate and deliver the operational vision.
Excellent leadership and problem-solving skills.
Professional understanding of finances, supply chain, workflow, and staffing.
Practical knowledge of logistical and regulatory constraints.
Strong organizational skills and ability to manage all aspects of HR administration in relation to team management.
Excellent stock control and warehousing knowledge familiar with planning optimal stock flow and layouts within the warehouse across goods in, put away, pick, pack and despatch within a busy, fast paced environment.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with exceptional listening skills.
Fork Lift licence/experience desirable, if not, must be willing to be trained.
Full manual driving licence, preferably clean, as periodic journeys will be required between warehouses.
