Ecologist

Location: Sussex

Salary: From £27,500

A leading independent consultancy specialising in environment, planning, and sustainability is seeking motivated Ecologists to join their team based in Sussex. You'll have the opportunity to work across a variety of sectors, supporting clients with a range of ecology services. Your responsibilities will include conducting protected species surveys, coordinating mitigation projects, advising clients on regulatory requirements, preparing Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) reports, and leading a team of ecologists to deliver cost-effective project solutions.

The Role

  • Lead and deliver complex contracts, working closely with clients and their design teams to find solutions to their challenges.
  • Oversee and mentor junior staff, review technical work, and ensure high-quality report drafting.
  • Play a key role in business development by preparing costings, tendering for projects, and identifying opportunities for growth and diversification.

Ecologist Requirements

  • A relevant degree and 3+ years of professional experience.
  • Strong knowledge of UK and European environmental legislation.
  • Proven experience in fieldwork and report writing
  • Full membership (or eligibility) of CIEEM and a full UK driving licence.
  • Holding a Natural England protected species licence (e.g., Bat Class 2 or GCN Class 1).
  • Experience with Biodiversity Net Gain (BNG).
