Academics is currently recruiting for a Behaviour Buddy to work within a primary school in Lewes. As a Behaviour Buddy, you will be supporting children in a teaching assistant role, primarily focusing on promoting positive behaviour and helping students overcome any challenges they may face in the classroom.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Behavioural Support: Work directly with children who have specific behavioural needs, supporting their emotional regulation and positive behaviour within the classroom.
  • Promote Positive Engagement: Help students stay focused and engaged in their lessons, fostering a sense of confidence and belonging in the classroom.
  • Tailored Intervention: Assist in creating and implementing strategies to support students with particular learning or behavioural challenges, ensuring their inclusion in the classroom.
  • Collaboration with Staff: Support the wider school team, including teachers and special needs staff, to implement effective behaviour management strategies.
  • Recording Progress: Monitor and record student behaviour and progress, reporting feedback to relevant staff to ensure appropriate interventions.

Ideal Candidate:

  • Experience: Previous experience working with children, especially in a classroom or supportive role, would be advantageous.
  • Skills: Strong communication skills, patience, and an ability to de-escalate challenging situations calmly.
  • Passion: A passion for helping children overcome barriers to learning and behaviour and a commitment to inclusive education.
  • Qualifications: A background in child development, SEN, or related fields would be beneficial, but not essential.
