Operational Technology (OT) refers to the set of digital assets which are at the very heart of Anglian Waters industrial operations. Operational technology systems are deployed throughout our geographical region to enable remote monitoring and control of water collection, treatment and distribution processes. The demand for Operational Technology solutions within the Water sector is soaring due to the opportunities associated with IT / OT integration and Industry 4.0 applications. It is recognised that OT is key in enabling us to achieve our performance commitments (including reduction in leakage and pollutions) and providing an excellent service to our customers.

Anglian Water have an OT Services Framework in place to help deliver our OT Capital Maintenance Programme across our Water and Water Recycling estate. This framework covers both OT telemetry and automation services.

As an OT Field Project Engineer you will be required to support our OT capital programme and the work of our OT Capital Delivery partners to ensure maximum value is extracted. This will primarily involve:

  • Production of surveys

  • Supporting testing and commissioning

  • Reviews of OT documentation

  • Technical support

The OT Field Project Engineer will be expected to have in-depth technical knowledge and understanding of OT Telemetry Outstations / Automation hardware (PLC) / software / protocols, SCADA and industrial

communication/control networks (IP & legacy) used within the water sector.

You will be able to work collaboratively with other OT service lines and key operational colleague/stakeholders from Water and Water Recycling to support the delivery of our capital programme.

We are looking for someone with excellent communication and customer service skills, able to work to plan and possess good analytic and problem-solving skills. The role will be home based, the site-based work will primarily be geographically based but could involve travel throughout the Anglian Water region.

What will you be doing?

  • Supporting the OT Project Managers in the identification of OT Service Framework work packages

  • Completing telemetry and automation type surveys (based on a template) to be used in large work packages (greater than £75k) to be issued to our OT Services Framework partners

  • Work with OT Project Manager to plan survey work alongside your other responsibilities

  • Undertake the review and approval of FDS and technical design documents needed to support the delivery and integration of replacement and new Telemetry and Automation hardware and systems.

  • Ensure all installations comply with company Health and Safety, electrical safety policies and standards.

What does it take to be successful?

  • Educated to HNC/HND (Electronics/Electrical Engineering)

  • City and Guilds /NVQ level 3 electrical qualification

  • Worked within a geographically dispersed field engineering team.

  • Maintenance and software configuration of PLC hardware and software (Rockwell/Schneider)

  • Maintenance and software configuration of HMI hardware and software (Rockwell/Schneider)

  • Maintenance of SCADA and ICS systems and networks

  • Operations and maintenance of Telemetry outstations used for the monitoring and or control of operational process.

  • Knowledge of communication networks and technologies (Radio/Mobile and Fixed)

  • Knowledge of DC/AC supplies, UPS systems and electrical distribution installations

  • IP networking (Ethernet/LAN/WAN)

  • Working knowledge and or understanding of Routers, Switches deployed within an industrial environment.

  • Working knowledge of IEC 61131 programming applications

  • Industrial Networks (Ethernet, Fieldbus, RS232/485 and Fibre Optics)

  • Full driving licence.
