Physics Subject Lead / Head of PhysicsLocation: LingfieldSalary: MPS 5 - UPS 3 + TLR DOE Start Date: September 2025

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced and dynamic Subject Team Leader to join a forward-thinking school. This role is ideal for an ambitious educator with a passion for curriculum development, assessment strategies, and leadership.

Key Responsibilities:Curriculum Development & Teaching
  • Lead the team in planning for departmental improvement and effectively implementing whole school priorities.

  • Develop and regularly revise schemes of learning, ensuring assessment strategies and adaptations are in place to support all students.

  • Monitor the quality of teaching and learning, conducting lesson observations, work sampling, and analysis of student performance data.

  • Lead and advise on classroom management and the delivery of high-quality teaching and learning.

  • Work closely with Year Leaders to monitor student progress and implement interventions to raise achievement.

  • Oversee the organisation of departmental clubs, trips, and visits.

  • Manage departmental resources, including financial, human, and physical assets.

Assessment & Student Progress
  • Ensure clear and effective assessment methods in line with national and school policies.

  • Use prior and current performance data to track and support student progress.

  • Implement strategies to ensure KS3, KS4, and KS5 attainment targets are met.

Leadership & Management
  • Drive departmental and school improvement through the implementation of the school development plan and policies.

  • Provide supervision and guidance to students and staff, ensuring high standards are maintained.

  • Oversee departmental work, including assessment, curriculum delivery, and professional development.

  • Chair team meetings effectively, ensuring agendas and action points are clearly communicated.

  • Represent the department at Curriculum Team Leaders' meetings when required.

  • Support the safer recruitment process for new staff.

  • Lead professional development initiatives, keeping the team informed of curriculum changes and policy updates.

  • Implement and participate in the staff performance development review process.

The Ideal Candidate:
  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) with proven leadership experience.

  • Strong understanding of curriculum planning, assessment, and student progress monitoring.

  • Excellent communication, organisation, and leadership skills.

  • Ability to inspire and lead a team towards departmental and whole school improvement.

  • Commitment to delivering high-quality teaching and learning.
